Meet the Greeks is designed to help students learn more about Greek life and how it can make an impact on students’ college experience. Different Greek organizations offer a wide variety of experience for students with different backgrounds.
The University of North Carolina at Pembroke has over 21 active sororities and fraternities. UNCP is one of the few universities in the country that have all Divine Nine, historically African American fraternities and sororities.
It is very rare for a university to have all black Greek organizations. Greek life engages with all students with their activities and programs that are setup throughout the school year. Greeks also do community service in the Pembroke community as well.
“The fraternity embodies the brotherhood and characteristics, me as a young man and I saw a lot of traits that I lined up with. Being in a brotherhood that’s like myself,” said Anthony Cater, member from the Nu Omicron Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
Being in a Greek organization can build lifelong friendships and professional networks for students’ future.
Greek life at UNCP also has strict GPA requirements to ensure students perform their best academically. In order for a student to be interested in any Greek organization their GPA has to be a 2.5 or higher. If the chapter or new member has a 2.0 GPA or below will be put on academic probation.
